About Priory Park
Priory Park Amateur Boxing Club was founded in the 1970's by the late Terry Seymore. Situated as is it today on the Priory Road the quaint little gym attracted many people. However the gym faced closure on a number of occasions and as it struggled for finances many believed it would indeed close. The hardest times for the gym came in the early 90's. It was at this time that cousins Paul and Stephen Gough breathed a new lease of life into the club. Paul, himself a keen and successful boxer bought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the club, and alongside hard-working Steve attracted new members to the club and helped Priory Park ABC back onto its feet. Over the years since Paul and Steve stepped in Priory Park has bread immense talent. The club boasts Schoolboy champions, England Champions, Golden Gloves champions and many more. Priory Park Is now one of the most notorious clubs in the the Midlands, if not the UK, and as far as head coach Paul Gough is concerned there is still far more to come form this club that has been at the heart of the community for so long.
Getting the club on its feet and making it financially sound was the first step.
Along with attracting new boxers and making stars of the future, Paul and Steve have had their work cut out. There have been many people over the years who have helped get Priory Park to where it is now. A special thankyou is in order to these people whom without their help and contribution Priory Park may not have been here today. The list of names is endless. Thanks to all the parents who have been involved over the years. To all the committe members, all the coaches (past and present), the sponsors and anyone else who has been involved with the club.
The club now thrives with boxers. So much so that extra coaching staff have been put in place and extra training days added to the week. Its popularity is shown by the fact that there is a waiting list to join the club. Taking the club to the next level is now the aim. To do this improvements need to be made to the building and its facilities. The club is currently trying to raise funding to extend and take on more members, introduce women to the club, give a better quality and standard of equipments to its users and take the club forward for years to come.
